A Soft Place to Land

There is a specific kind of silence that follows a blow from someone you love. It’s not the silence of peace; it’s the heavy, suffocating silence of a heart trying to process why the hands meant to hold it are the very ones trying to break it.    I write today because I need to breathe. I write because, if I don't, the weight of these burdens might just pull me under. The Pain of the Hidden Truth We’ve all been there. You look at the person you admire most, the one you’ve cheered for in every season, and you realize they are using their words not to build you up, but to cut you down. It is a staggering irony: those we honor often choose to meet us with dishonor. I’ve spent so many nights wondering why the people closest to us become our greatest battlefields instead of our safe harbors. We talk about faith, we speak of grace, and we acknowledge that none of us are perfect—but shouldn't time count for something? I hoped for maturity. I hoped they would see the "evol...

Living with the End in Mind

Three weeks ago, I preached my very first eulogy—stepping in for my dad, who had to be rushed to the hospital. The message I shared came from his sermon notes, “Death Is Only a Shadow.” One verse that stood out to me during that message was from 1 Samuel 20:3 , where David said to Jonathan: “But truly, as the LORD lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.” If I’m honest, 2025 has felt like a year marked by loss. Death has been moving through families and communities, hitting hard and often. I’ve attended more funerals this year than I can count. I’ve seen more “In Memory Of” posts and RIP tributes than I ever wanted to. I’ve cried tears of sorrow for loved ones and friends who are no longer here—people I can’t call, laugh with, or hug on this side of heaven. I’ve also carried the weight of others’ grief, feeling the sting of their pain. One thing is certain: we will all walk that road when our time comes. The real question is—are we living with the end...

Shattered but Seen: Finding Light Through the Cracks of Family Pain

There are moments in life when everything feels like it’s unraveling at once. When grief doesn’t knock— …it kicks down the door. Lately, I’ve been living in one of those moments. Watching my sister slip into another relapse, my mother bound by the weight of severe depression, while my father, siblings, and even the grandchildren carry the silent burdens of what feels like a collapsing family. Everyone is hurting. Everyone is surviving. Barely. And the pain? It’s loud, but we’ve all learned to whisper about it. Help! My family is falling apart. The Reality Behind Closed Doors People see us smiling in public and assume we’re okay. But they don’t see the family truth behind locked doors. They don’t see how trauma ripples through generations like a virus. And we’ve all been infected. No one talks about the shame of watching a loved one relapse again. Or the helplessness of seeing your once-strong mother not be able to get out of bed. Or how numb the rest of us become just ...

Unspoken Words...I Broke Down Today!!!

So how's this for a reel...real talk, real truth and real emotions... I Broke Down Today!!! Some would say, I had a meltdown while others would say I lost total control of my emotions. I would have been deemed emotional and yet I was unashamed... I baled, I balled, I cried out in desperation because of hurt, pain, mishandling and misinformation. You see days before I was walking tall, proud that I was keeping it all together. For what though, for a world that is growing colder and callous every day. Now has me wondering, do people truly care about people. The world today is not the world that I dreamt about...a world of peace, love, unity, equality, equity and family togetherness...just the sound of it seems farfetched now. But yet I still have a dream... that one day tings gonna get better...like the good Bishop says. I broke down today because family is not the same anymore, so much  division, so much strife, no unity and I am asking where is the love that once was had. I broke d...

Mean It!

Hello, is this thing on?🎤 Well, it has been a while since I have released a blog post. The reason is that I have not been inspired to write much of anything lately. When I tell you the season I was in, from a personal perspective was a dry season. it was a period of being off the grid and staying in the shadows. It was the season of my detox. It required me to be poured into rather than pouring out myself.  Lately, I found myself searching and in desperate need of something different. I needed more!   Now, I want to qualify my statement, by simply stating that I needed more than the norm. More for my life! My professional life, my spiritual life, and my personal life required me to seek beyond my normal. I was... no I am intentional about my next season being way different than before. I cannot get away with a mediocre outlook on life because I want more of what life has to offer.  I want to be more. I want to experience more. I am not speaking from the mater...

It's Christmas Time Again...

The season is upon us... Yes, that season where everything is so festive and cheery... I absolutely love this season! Christmas time always makes me smile and I anticipate the joys that come along with it.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, eating sumptuous meals, caroling and of course Junkanoo...it's not the Christmas season if you don't add the culture. Recently, I was just thinking about a time during the pandemic when I joined a songwriting group  on Facebook and they challenged the group to write a Christmas song. There were people from all over the world...at least 6 of the 7 continents were represented. I guess we were a group of people who needed to make a connection while being locked down and prohibited from movement. Well the challenge was given and of course, I was up for it.  I gave it my best shot.  I wrote what I called my Island version of a Christmas song with some help from this rocker dude from the UK. He and I "collabed" and put some...

Live Free: Getting Rid of Toxic Connections

I hate to admit the obvious, but I am still learning how life, love and all things in between work. I must confess that I will forever be a life-long learner until the day I die. One thing I've recently discovered for certain is that we are responsible for what we bring into our lives. We are responsible for the types of relationships we have and the people we are associated with. I am aware of how toxic people can be and how we must truly guard our peace at all costs. The older you get, the more baggage you carry. Unfortunately, if the weight is not offloaded, it becomes heavier and heavier. You can then unload on an unwitting victim. On this blog, I've often mentioned introspection and doing the work on yourself before you can help anyone else. However, for clarity and emphasis, you must prioritize your personal development and healing. This comes with the understanding and knowledge that some people are not your assignment and you are not required to help them improve. Geesh...

Don't Sabotage Your Destiny

Pain causes deeply rooted trauma. I wonder if many of us have taken the time to assess our lives and the painful experiences we have had over time. I am not shy in speaking my truth about a lifetime of pain that utterly rendered me numb to moving forward in my life. I am typically speaking of heartbreaks, toxic relationships, unforgiveness and deeply rooted resentment that  have been buried and carried over my lifetime which left a distinctive residue and marked me significantly. I would have thought that I had a sign on me that says, pain resides here. I just could not duck heart break, toxic reactions and strained relationships. It just seemed that I was attracted to pain. The hardest thing I ever had to do is push past pain, push past betrayal, lies, manipulation,  rejection, fear of the unknown and a past that was riddled with so much shame and guilt.  No-one talks about the shame and guilt from past experiences and voluntary bad decisions that cripples one with fear,...

Ruins

You rebuild, You restore All that’s broken From the ruins You redeem, You return All that’s stolen From your children That’s what You do... Ruins-Maverick City Music Heard a Maverick City Music song lately titled, "Ruins" and it simply floored me.  In being fully transparent the last few weeks have been quite challenging emotionally and physically for me. I have had such highs and lows lately, feeling very much overwhelmed, out of place and pushed to my limit.  Yes I know life throws curveballs and there will be good and bad days but I felt like I was in a familiar  place where I was breaking a part...breaking down, breaking away and going under. The myriad of emotions that flooded me pushed me deeper into a low place. A place in which I have avoided for a while but the thing about life...it comes around full circle and sometimes gets to you. It reminds you that you are not super human but you are very much a flawed mortal. I felt like I was under ruins. The song Ruins mi...

I GIVE UP!

I give up!  Yes, I am waving my white flag in surrender. Here is the most significant revelation that God made me comprehend during this pandemic and that it is a need to give up. I know most of us would never say never or surrender...but I felt so much a tugging in my spirit to finally give up and yield. This year, for many people, we had to learn to be still and take a time-out. A time-out that allowed us to connect to our Creator. Well, I did just that. What I realized in these months of 2020 is that God controls my destiny. Not that I was not aware of this before, but before 2020 I was so hell-bent on going after what I wanted, rather than what He wanted for me. I was absorbed in chasing so many things and working on so many projects.  All along trying to get the world to notice me.  I wanted them to pay attention to who I am and the gifts I have and that I was someone to reckon with. I got caught up with social media, promoting myself to others and pushing my agenda ...

Not Everyone's Cup of Tea...

It's funny someone asked me the other day, about why it seems that I may not be connecting with people and they also shared that there were some who may have perceived me as being fake. On another occasion, someone else expressed the fact that I am overly confident and come off too sure of myself. It is no surprise to me at all that I am characterized by one extreme to the next. Such is life! However, in my quiet time, I pondered on the varied interpretations presented to me and attempted to come to terms with the perceptions that many people have of me. I came up with some enthralling yet meaningful conclusions that encouraged me to focus on positives rather than the negatives of who people think or say that I am. Although, if their issues are legitimate, I have learned to put valid points before me and find ways I can address them so to become better. My daily goal is to be a better version of me each day. Now back to my reflections regarding people perceptions of me. One of the ...

Quarantine Chronicles-The Struggle is Real!

This is my confession....I am tired of being locked away...it has been about  a month and counting (I definitely lost count). At first, I breezed through the first few weeks like a champ. However, lately, I am fatigued, physically and mentally tired and longing for social connections, nature connections and a sense of my life...where I have a freedom to roam and do what I please within the confines of the law. . I am just overwhelmed at this moment, I am not depressed or sad but just  feeling  withdrawn and impatient. Being single and living alone....I do enjoy the quiet moments, the solitude and peace with not having to be bombarded with common family foot traffic in a multiple family living space. I love my space but I crave connection more than ever So, this week it is hitting me hard and I am drained. I have also been keeping busy working from home and  developing content for my job.  I am also working as a technical assistant and producer for my c...

Seasons

Seasons come and seasons go... I sometimes pine a loss of a friendship and or loved one....the loss is not because of death but because the relationship ended. I find myself going through emotions after closing doors to relationships that went sour or south. I love that we as humans can create friendships and bonds with one another. I absolutely   love meeting people and making new  friends. I am the consummate friend. I am most likely  that  one  you can rely on and can depend on for whatever reason with no strings attached. My view about friendships is that one should be in it for the long haul. However, all friendships do not last in fact, most friendships expire after it has run its course. If I am honest, I  hate  the fact that  I have to deal with a break up or ending a relationship. . I never intend to go into something blindly and willy  nilly  to just have it just end. But you are never aware ...

Choosing Yourself

"Self Care is an act of Love," read this somewhere and it resonated with me deeply. Today, everyone is talking about "self love" and "self care"it has become almost a fad nowadays and some thing that most new age social mavens would call currently "trending." It is a popular term that has the world focusing and concentrating on self. However, it should only be considered a must if you are one who have been neglecting "self" for most of your life. I am talking about those selfless, giving, and larger than life personalities, who are the ones most people expect to receive help from. They are those the world calls "The Givers" and the Givers have been pilfered, plundered, pissed on by so many takers or toxic personalities. I am writing because I am one of those who have been mishandled, misused, taken advantage of over time....I am a Giver. In an effort to be transparent, many people consider the fact that because I am a c...

The Struggle Is Real

The vicissitudes of life may sometimes come with challenges or insurmountable tasks that we have to  face and endure from time to time. Everyone of us has had to deal with some major struggle in our lives, whether personal, family, or workplace. The struggles in life are real and it is part of our journey into our becoming who and what we need to be. I often quote, "don't watch nuttin" in my Bahamian vernacular. Why? I realize everything is not what it seem in my or many other person's lives. I am  currently single and I  often look at someone who is married and I think to myself, I want this for me. I want what they have because it looks picture perfect. However, in reality you may have a marriage that is being held on by a thread. You may have two individuals who are like two ships passing through the night and what they give to the world is only an illusion.Yet, I look into their world and I want what they have...I desire their struggle.....Considering, that ...

Hard Reset-Resetting Your Life

HARD RESET-RESET YOUR LIFE It has been awhile since I have written a blog entry. Why now? Well, for me, I had to go through processing my feelings and attitudes which helps me to discover what direction I should take. Writing this blog has always helped  me unpack my thoughts and sift through the meaningful and the meaningless of my life. It is my therapy in short...as I need to release an unleash my present issues. In about two weeks, I will be celebrating another birthday and as usual, I always spend time doing a little heart searching and in deep introspection. This birthday is no different from any other. I am intentional on unpacking and uncovering the issues that I am currently facing. One of my major issues is how do I see myself and what do others see in me. Recently, I have been garnering feedback wanted and unwanted by those around me, close family,  friends and random strangers,  in which I have had meaningful encounters and dialogue with at opportun...

The Journey to Me

I am moving steadfastly each day trying to find some sense of normalcy.  My life is spiraling...not where I am losing control but where I  have clearly lost a sense of my direction and purpose. Things are changing rapidly that I lost momentum, and find myself at the starting lineup. Why? I failed again, plain and simple, don't know how much times I have experience failure processing. I have to admit defeat and failure to myself as I embark on a reality check up. I admit these words to myself, saying "Sister Girl, you done messed up.  You did not learn the lessons that you ought and you did not choose the better way. Therefore,  you have allowed pride, fear and your opinion to push you deeper away from the ultimate plans and purpose of God." Yes, I go through the processing and the moments of inflection and reflection. Despite, my  failures, I live to correct them and am thankful that God graced me yet again. My journey is to discover not the Me I want ...

The Imperfect Me

Everyone has a secret or two to hide. No-one wants to see the full story of their lives paraded on  screens for the world to see...raw and uncensored. Every scene that we would want to be deleted captured for the audience view. The world has become ever more judgmental with the emergence of social media and the platforms which allow you to speak and say every and anything not considering the consequences or the results of your words and or actions. It is even a popular place to become someone you are not. A place where you can pretend to be a perfect image of humanity. However, your image is a figment of imagination..No one is perfect. Some of us have a  petrid, dirty past that we have managed to navigate and clean ourselves up so good that we don't look like what we have been through.  If it wasn't for the grace of God, we would have still been Lady Tramp, Gang Banger, Drug Runner , Murderer, Slanderer, Rapist and Cheater. Some of us have managed to escape the...

Loving to Lose

Many times we find ourselves in situations where we know better not to get involved. These unhealthy relationships or connections that we seemingly attract, in which we become caught up in the newness, the glamour, and the whirlwind of emotions and find ourselves hopelessly a prisoner of love. These relationships or connections sole purpose is to sidetrack or destroy you. I often tell myself, look, listen and learn...and pay attention as life is always trying to teach us something. I have learned over the years how we shape our realities and future by our choices and decisions.  We engage in conversations, meetings, contracts and relationships that are  all wrong for us. What I have not understand in my years on this earth is why? Why, when we know that if we venture in uncharted territory,  with imminent signs of danger,  we still move forward. We become the cause of our own demise. Yet over and over, we blame others for our misfortunes but we fail to blame...

Shifted

You just know that you're being shifted, when you're most uncomfortable, less bothered by the status quo and in a period of quietude, where you are just observing it all and you refuse to speak about anything of significance or noteworthy. As you have learned the wisdom of being still and keeping your business to yourself.  All this means is that you are in a state of transition and something wonderful is occurring in your life... This is it...you are getting ready to expand, where your daily contractions are pretty close together and are preparing you for your season of birthing. Now one thing  I have realized, is that out of these moments of uncertainty and ebbs and flows, something dynamic is taking place. You are about to be shifted. I truly believe that after you have fought enough, failed enough, sacrificed enough, learned enough, and have been stretched enough one thing is for certain... you have to move in another direction. Why? The status quo is simply ...
