Someone's legacy in life speaks to not just what they have accomplished but who they truly are.
Passing the Baton |
In recent months and weeks, I have been hearing of the passing of some great people in their own right. People like Paul Crouch, Nelson Mandela, Paul Walker and just to name a few. At home, we have heard of the passing of great people like King Eric Gibson, Gus Cooper who all tremendously impacted our nation by their great contributions. But then I hear of great people like Pastor Mark Bethel, Dr. Jennifer Deveaux, Kevan Mckenzie, and more recently Min.Joy Simmons and for me, I ponder about their great work in life and ministry and how much of themselves they have poured out to mentor and build others.
Could I be honest with my writings, I always hoped that when I write, it would be truth and not some flowery account to tantalize my readers emotions. When great people die, I feel saddened to know that we have lost someone that made an impact to the lives of many. But when great Saints die, I grieve tremendously in my Spirit because often we in the Kingdom take a tremendous loss. A few weeks ago after hearing about Min. Joy Simmons a Worship Warrior in the Kingdom, I was overwhelmed with tremendous grief and pain.
Let me say this, I did not know her personally, I knew off her and I only had one time to hear her speak at the ASAPH Conference at Bahamas Faith Ministries a few years ago, and during that time she truly poured into me and impacted me significantly by her words and experience.
I cannot explained why I grieved in the manner I did, but I grieved and my spirit grieved deeply within me.
Some of you may know that the Lord gave me an assignment, a few months back to host a Worship Gathering called the Threshing Floor Worship Experience which would happen this Friday, January 24, 2014. This Worship Gathering is geared to prepare our hearts, mind, spirits for ministry but not just that to tap into the very Presence of God. It is designed to be a moment of purification, consecration, giving and worship. In the planning process, I was a little timid and fearful because this thing that was laid on my heart was something that I did not understand and it was also, a new thing for our church. However, the weight of it begun to bear extremely heavy and as I heard of the death of Min Joy, I grieved...
I may have thought about it this way, your life and ministry will cost you something, sometimes it costs you everything...and the way I was feeling, I did not want to bear the cost. (I wondered if anyone can relate to this). As the weight of it all bore on me, I picked up the phone and called my Pastor Dad and told him, I cannot do this, this thing is too hard for me; and as my Dad encouraged me, and told me, child, you have come this far to give up now. I heard this thing in my spirit...there is a passing of the baton.
When great people die, those who have a great legacy, if not all but some, tend to leave behind an inheritance. Many times or not, sons and daughters maybe recipients of their inheritance. They may have learned all they can from those who have gone before them, they may have been mentored and developed by them but most importantly they would have the same characteristics and qualities of the one that has gone before.
The great preachers, psalmists, prophets and intercessors all leave an inheritance that is up for grabs. My Spiritual Mentor and dear sister, Min. Nicola Watson, explained it this way when you hear and see of individuals passing, such individuals like Min Joy or Dr. Jennifer Deveaux their mantles are up for grabs.
I am reminded of Elijah and Elisha and how Elisha in the last moments of Elijah's life would not let his Master, Teacher and Mentor out of his sight. Elijah asked of Elisha," what can I do for you?" Elisha said to him, "let me inherit a double portion of your spirit." Elijah told Elisha if you see me when I am taken from you, it is yours! And as I read more about this event, Elisha did see Elijah being taken up, and as he was taken up, his cloak fell from the sky to the earth and Elisha took it up.
Mantles Are Falling |
My mentor said it this way, mantles are falling to the earth and are up for grabs. God is preparing his next generation of Prophets, Evangelists, Teachers, Worshippers, Ministers for this new season. As great men and women of God are passing and are leaving the scene, there is a spiritual inheritance up for grabs. Some of us have been waiting and praying for a double portion of the anointing that flowed in the lives of people I have mentioned above and God is saying in this season, I am giving you the anointing for an even greater work. Are you ready to receive it?
Mantles are Falling are you desiring more, to be filled with more of God's Presence, to be equipped more of His Power, to Worship more, pushing beyond the veil, going deeper, going higher.
Yes, the Mantles are falling...are you in the position to receive? God wants to use those who are willing to be used. He is pouring out His Spirit now....
The Baton is being passed and now it is your turn to run the race!
